One of the goals of the UU Meriden Board of Trustees has been the creation of an organizational chart to help all of us better understand how our ministries, committees, and leadership work together.
Why have an organizational chart in a small church?
Even in a small congregation, an organizational chart is a valuable tool. It helps us:
Clarify roles and responsibilities so everyone knows who is doing what.
Improve communication by showing how different groups connect and collaborate.
Support transparency and accountability so leadership and members alike can see how decisions are made and how we work toward our shared goals.
Welcome and orient new members by giving them an easy-to-understand picture of how our community is organized.
What’s important to know is that these charts are not meant to show a traditional “top-down” or hierarchical structure. Instead, they are designed to reflect the spirit of how we function as a congregation: interconnected, collaborative, and grounded in shared values and shared responsibilities.
The Board has created two versions of the chart—one detailed and one simplified. The detailed version provides a closer look at how different groups and roles connect and support each other, while the simplified version offers a broad, easy-to-follow overview. Both help communicate more clearly how we all fit into the life of the congregation.
