Our new meetinghouse was dedicated in 2005, and is located at 328 Paddock Avenue in Meriden, off East Main Street near I-91, I-691, and the Wilbur Cross Parkway.
"In this welcoming congregation of all ages,
We are committed to the search for truth and meaning;
To caring for one another;
To personal, creative, and spiritual growth;
And service to the wider community."
The Unitarian Universalist Church in Meriden is a liberal religious community committed to the free search for truth and meaning of each individual. Our members and friends come from every religious background and follow a wide variety of spiritual paths. We encourage people to think for themselves, and come to their own understanding of religious truth. We welcome you and celebrate you as a whole person, regardless of your religious affiliation, your age, your ethnic background, your sexual orientation or gender expression. Ours is a church where you are encouraged to be who are, and where you are affirmed for who you are.
Our worship services are held every Sunday at 10:30 AM. (NOTE: Summer services are at 10:00 AM and there is no children's RE program in July and August). We have a religious education program for young people where children learn how to come to their own understanding of who they are, in the framework of the Unitarian Universalist principles of respect for the worth and dignity of all people, justice equity and compassion, the right of each person to their own beliefs, and respect for the interdependent web of existence of which we are a part.
Our new Interim Minister, The Rev. Dr. Tony Johnson will begin serving our congregation this summer. Tony will serve us during the transition period as we prepare to enter the search process for a new settled minister following the departure of the Rev. Lucy Ijams who served our congregation for 13 years. Rev. Ijams is now serving as the consulting minister for the Unitarian Universalist Church in Utica, NY.
The Rev. Dr. Tony Johnson received his Master of Divinity degree from Harvard University in 1977 and was ordained as a Unitarian Universalist Minister by the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Burbank, CA that year. He has served Unitarian Universalist congregations in California, New Jersey, and New York in settled, consulting, interim, and community minister positions. During his career he has also served in executive positions with a number of non-profit community service organizations. He serves as the part-time consulting minister for the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Palisades in Englewood NJ, and as an affiliated Community Minister for the Community Church of New York in Manhattan. Tony received his Dr. of Ministry degree in Ministry in Multifatih Settings from the NY Theological Seminary in May of this year.
OUR CONGREGATION is warm and welcoming. We invite you to visit with us and find out if ours is the spiritual home you have been seeking.
